How Words Create Both Negative and Positive Connotations

It's a confusing world - we use so many words to describe similar or the same thing. Some words have a pejorative/negative connotation, some neutral, some positive. "Plus size" is very much a positive phrase - the word "plus" is deliberately used here. It's a phrase that's inclusive (plus) too. Then you have the usual suspects - fat, obese, overweight. Yes, these are actually accurate words when used in the right context, there's no denying that. But they're also used to wrongly describe perfectly normal people who are NOT these things - yet the fashion industry dictate that a dress can only be made up to a certain size - anyone over that size is "overweight".

It is us consumers who need to frame the language of fashion, not the fashion makers. We are the drivers of the industry, not the makers.
